IRISH NEWS 31/07/1928:
BELFAST ACCIDENT:
Motor Van Dashes into Party of Workers at Andersonstown.
When a motor van crashed into a number of workmen at Andersonstown yesterday
morning about 8.20 oneman was killed and others were more or less severly
injured.
The names are:-
Edward McCafferty, Grove Street (killed)
George Turkington, Tavanagh Street (fractured arm and injuries to the back).
Joseph Whiteman, Carlton Street, ( slight injuries) and
Thomas Blair, Lawnbrook Avenue (slight injuries).
All were detained in the Royal Victoria Hospital except Balir, who was allowed
home after treatment.
The men were engaged at work on the road when the van which belongs to Messrs.
Kennedy and Co., bakers, Falls Road, and driven by Joseph Totten, was coming
from the direction of the city and crashed into the main body of workers. The
vehicle, with the force of the impact, tuened over on its side.
On inquiry at the hospital last night it was learned that Turkington's condition
had improved.
